She has also been invited to deliver a presentation on the book's topic of distance learning innovation in higher education at the association's annual conference in Vancouver British Columbia in mid-April 2007 where she and co-editor Dr. Joan Krejci Griggs, National Training Officer at the National Archives and Records Administration and former Program Officer of USDOE FIPSE, will be receiving the award. PFT Best Education Podcast Awards Competition. Sponsored by Fordham’s Podcast for Teachers, Techpod SM, this juried competition began in November 2006 and has a deadline of May 1, 2007 for all submissions. The competition recognizes outstanding teacher, student and school work in educational podcasting, with five award categories and educational levels from pre-k to higher education. Last year’s participants included entries from NY to Nevada, Long Island to Polynesian Islands and Alaska to South Africa. ALL are welcome to participate in the contest by reading the rules, producing a podcast which follows the guidelines, and send it in!

On May 9, 2006, Dr. Kathleen King, director of the RETC and professor of adult education, was honored as a co-recipient of The Lawrence S. Levin Professional Award from the New York Association of Continuing/Community Education (NYACCE) at their annual award luncheon in Albany, NY. This award is given annually to “an administrator of an adult education program and/or professional involved in adult continuing/community education programs for at least five years, who is a current member of NYACCE, and has made unique contributions to adult continuing/community education.” NYACCE President Sue Licata cited Dr. King’s contributions to the field of adult education and to NYACCE in particular through her past presidency of the association, her founding of the state journal of research and practice, Perspectives: The New York Journal of Adult Learning, her leadership on the Board of Directors as a voice of higher education, research, practice and innovation, and her leadership in technology innovation for the association. Dr. King’s many publications as an adult educator researcher, author, and conference presenter were identified as foundational to the leadership in NYACCE. Dr. King said about the award, “NYACCE has been a vital part of my career and development as a researcher because it has given me the opportunity to continue to be enmeshed in the issues of practice and weave them with research and theory; this could not have happened anywhere else. Most of all I appreciate that NYACCE recognizes my love to teach any and all adults and my identity with their role as adult educators. Dr. Kathy King and Mark Gura of Fordham University, co hosts of the Center's weekly podcast, Techpod, Podcast for Teachers, were honored with the 2005 Innovation Award for educational leadership in the field of professional development on Oct. 28 at the Professional Organizational Development (POD) Network's annual conference in Milwaukee, Wis.  The weekly podcast, which is broadcast over the Web and can be accessed on a computer or MP3 player, was developed by Kathy King, Ed.D., director of the RETC, and Mark Gura, a professional developer and outreach coordinator for the RETC. Since its launch in August 2005 (Until 11/05) , more than 9,000 listeners have tuned into an edition of Techpod, Podcast for Teachers, which focuses on professional development for educators on the topic of educational technology, curriculum and innovations. (ACHE) presented its Creative Use of Technology Award to Fordham University's Graduate School of Education for its Anytime, Anywhere Learning Professional Development School (AALPDS) in November, 2002. Dr. Kathleen King, Professor, Fordham, and the program's director, accepted the award from ACHE's Instructional Technology and Distance Learning Network in recognition of the project's "innovative uses of instructional and distance learning technologies in lifelong learning." AALPDS's nationwide portal provides online continuing education courses for teachers. Over 1,300 teachers from across the nation have completed courses. Kathleen P. King, EdD received the Robert J. Menges Honored Presentation Award in October 2003 from the Professional and Organizational Development Network in Higher Education (POD). King, director of Fordham’s Regional Educational Technology Center and a professor in the Graduate School of Education, received the award in recognition of her international study of faculty development in higher education. Widener University Professor Patricia Lawler, EdD, collaborated on the project. The Robert J. Menges Honored Presentation Award was established in 2000 in honor of Bob Menges, a scholar who made lasting contributions to teaching, learning and faculty development in higher education. Adult Education Professor Named Leader in Field Kathleen P. King, Ed. D., director of Fordham University’s RETC: Center for Professional Development, has been featured as one of 50 adult educators leading the field in social change, theory and research in North American Adult Educators: Phyllis M. Cunningham Archive of Quintessential Autobiographies for the 21st Century (Discovery Association Publishing House, 2006). The book, published in December, includes autobiographies of 50 acclaimed adult educators, who chronicle their visionary work and accomplishments in the field of adult education. King has been on the Fordham faculty since 1997. At RETC, she oversees projects designed to provide professional development in educational technology to educators. In 2005-2006, the center reached more than 3,000 learners through local programs and over 100,000 through distance learning. DOJ-Serrano Grant Concludes with More than 100 Teachers, Parents, and Students Completing Computer Training Under the direction of Dr. Kathleen P. King, the final cycle of teacher, parent, and student computer training and testing as part of a Department of Justice grant opportunity at Fordham’s RETC comes to a conclusion this month. During the year-long project, more than 100 teachers, parents, and students from Career and Technical Education (CTE) schools in the Bronx completed computer training classes, 50 took a computer credentialing exam, and another 150 teachers and parents participated in CTE career awareness workshops. This Department of Justice earmark grant, totaling $295,000, was received September 2005 as an appropriation from Congressman Jose E. Serrano of New York’s 16 th Congressional District to help more people use technology and increase their computer skills for the workplace. Congressman Serrano visited the RETC in February 2006 to see first-hand the equipment and start-up of the first certified Computer Testing Center in the Bronx, which is located at the RETC, 557 E. Fordham Road. Teachers and parents participated in computer training and test prep classes at the RETC in content areas such as Microsoft Office Word and Excel, A+ certification, and Internet Computing Core & Certification (IC3). They were led in their classes and test prep by RETC certified instructors Albert Robinson, Vanelle Matthews, and Kraig DeMatteis. In addition, participating teachers also received professional development visits at their schools during their computer training to learn about CTE careers and how to incorporate CTE career awareness in their classes. The DOJ-Serrano grant initiative was overseen at the RETC by Dr. Kathleen King; coordinated by program manager and associate director Dr. Susan Biro; and CTE manager and curriculum developer, Albert Robinson; and supported by Anna Criscuolo, testing center proctor; and John Adamo, technical services manager.
